Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy stems from the understanding that each student is a unique individual with his/her own learning styles, strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes. As an educator, it is my job to discover these styles and help students learn to use their strengths to their advantage and also to help them build up the skills that are weaker. With this two-pronged approach, my goal is to help learners become increasingly self-sufficient. When students can become independent learners, I have helped them reach an important goal in their development as artists.
Keeping students' preferences for certain styles of repertoire in mind, my goal is that students will experience as many different styles and time periods of music written for the instrument. I choose pieces with my students, and think carefully about the purpose for learning each piece, whether it is for development of specific techniques, musicality, or preparation for a performance.
